Cattail Removal
Cattails are beneficial to pond and lake ecosystems but can become a real problem if not managed and controlled. Lakeland Biologists certified applicators treat and remove excessive nusiance cattails in retention ponds. Not all cattails should be removed from a waterbody. They are competing with algae and invasive aquatic plants. Our biologists can help you determine the right amount to treat and remove.
Lakeland Biologists recommends treating cattails during the fall season. Fall is the most effective time to treat cattails because the plants are storing energy into the root system. Typically our applicators get 90-95% effectiveness depending on the amount of area treated.
State permits are needed for aquatic herbicide use in Wisconsin. Contact Lakeland Biologists for additional information and help applying for permits. Or visit the State of Wisconsin DNR at
